Silver dazzle Masters Security

Silver Strikers recovered from their Confederation of African Football (CAF) Confederation Cup exit on Wednesday to beat Masters Security 4-0 yesterday at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe.

Zikani Kasambala opened the floodgates, Ronald Pangani had a brace and Prince Phiri scored the last goal as Masters goalkeeper Bester Phiri conceded four goals.

The hosts took command of the game and exploited Masters Security in the midfield and defence.

Silver reshuffled the whole team that started in the continental club contest on Wednesday with Green Harawa and Zikani Kasambala in place of Khuda Muyaba and Mike Tetteh.

Silver now have 56 points, three behind second-placed Be Forward Wanderers and eight behind league leaders Nyasa Big Bullets.

With the victory, the Bankers have an opportunity to finish second if Wanderers falter in their next two games and Silver win their last game with at least four goals.

Masters Security hopes for a top-four finish might not be realised but are guaranteed Airtel Top 8 participation next season.

In an interview, Masters Security coach Abbas Makawa blamed the loss on complacency.

“We relaxed a lot and did not play our usual game. The players underestimated Silver because they fielded not the usual first 11.

“After the loss yesterday, we had to make some changes. I am glad that the players did play with confidence and managed to win comfortably,” said assistant coach Peter Mgangira.
